About Me and Contact

Sara Timtim, MD

I’m a psychiatrist in San Francisco providing medication management and psychotherapy for women. I also use circadian rhythm-based treatments for mood and sleep disorders. Prior to starting independently, I worked for four years in clinics for women who have suffered sexual, emotional, and/or physical abuse, and veterans with PTSD.

Today, I continue my work in trauma both major and minor via this specialty clinic. For women who choose to raise children, their choices in relationships also directly affect the next generation. Optimizing mental health for women as early as possible helps to protect them from exploitation, and I believe it can help break a cycle of hurt for entire families.

Training and Credentials

I started pursuing psychiatry as an undergraduate at Stanford University, where I worked in the clinic for bipolar disorders. I went on to medical school at the University of Illinois with honors in psychiatry, and then to psychiatry residency training at UCSD. Finally, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship on PTSD/trauma at the San Francisco veterans’ hospital, in partnership with UCSF. I am board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
